Walsall DofE Generic Risk Assessment for Walking and Camping Expeditions

It is intended that groups use this document as a guide and develop it into an appropriate Risk Assessment for their group working a Risk Rating.

Groups should as part of their training be able to do Dynamic Risk Assessments

The Risk Levels calculated as part of the risk assessment are the multiple of the likelihood and the severity but these are only considered when the controls are in place.

The risk level in most cases is relatively small and there is more likelihood of injury getting to a venture rather than during the venture.

Example

Risk: "A group getting lost"

The likelihood is quite high 4,5,6 (depends on group training) and the severity could be death 5, but in reality it would be no more than embarrassment a 1 giving a Risk Level of 5 which is acceptable.
